Your chance to visit a working farm and Forest School.

“Learning by doing whilst having fun at the same time”

Bring your Pre-School or Nursery to the Mohair Centre for a school visit with a difference.  Activities will be tailored to the age group concerned. A morning with a packed lunch is advised. Your visit will be led by one of our trained staff.

A typical morning will combine Farming and Textiles, or you can add the Woodland Activities and design your own visit!

Farming: They will involve themselves with all types of farm animals, the angora goat, the dairy goat, sheep, cattle, pigs and chickens. Milking and bottle feeding are always popular. For any children or adults who are unsure of animals, the Rabbit and Guinea Pig Village is the Group to choose.

Textiles: A brief introduction to fibre, including carding and spinning.

Forest School Activities: We have two Forest Schools sites at the Mohair Centre, both have been turned into outdoor classrooms for use with children & groups. We are Forest School trained and can deliver the full range of skills they offer.

Safety rules are spelt out before the children start. Full washing facilities (hot water and soap) are available. Hand washing will be emphasised throughout the visit. Please wear suitable farm clothes and footwear, we are a working farm. Pregnant women should avoid visiting the farm during the lambing/kidding season between March and May. A member of staff will lead your visit, organise your group and give them tasks to do.There is a small gift shop where we have a small selection of goodies for children to buy, please let us know if this will be required.

Lunch - we have a picnic area and play area where packed lunches may be consumed away from the animals and there are undercover facilities should it be wet.Tea and coffee making facilities for adults are available on a DIY basis in the Tea Room.

Prices : £4.00 per child. Approx 30 children or less - 4 adults free. Additional adults will be charged at £4.00 per person - minimum charge £80.00
